Day 1: Welcome to Finland!
Welcome to Rovaniemi, the capital of the Lapland region! We will take a private group transfer from Rovaniemi Airport to the Scandic Rovaniemi City Hotel. The hotel is centrally located with free access to a traditional Finnish sauna, a gym, and Wi-Fi.
I recommend visiting the Arktikum Museum today to learn more about Lapland. This museum has interactive exhibits that lets you experience northern nature, culture, and history up close. The museum is one of the top things to see in Finland, so definitely make this a stop on your own!
Meet in hotel lobby at 6 PM to go have dinner at the Arctic Snow Hotel in their ICE RESTAURANT! You will have a 3-course in a restaurant made completely of ice an snow. Check out Google 360 degree photos of Ice Restaurant here. It is a really unique experience and a great start to our adventure! At dinner, we will visit and go over the weeks plans and get to know our fellow travelers!
Meals included: Dinner

How to Get to Rovaniemi:
The fastest way to reach Rovaniemi is to fly. Rovaniemi Airport, the official airport of Santa Claus, has multiple nonstop flights from Helsinki. Most major European cities connect through Helsinki.
If you wish to travel by train, I recommend taking the Santa Claus Express! It is a really cool overnight experience showing much of the Finnish winter landscape.
Deluxe double sleeper with private bathroom = 49 euros p.p.
Deluxe Single Sleeper with Private bathroom = 118 euros

Let me know if you're wanting to add this on, as I have access to special amenities such as a free pre-night stay and more.

Santa Claus spends his time at Santa Claus Village every day of the year to take care of his mission in life; to enhance the well-being of children and the kindness of grown-ups, as well as spread the message of love and goodwill and the Christmas Spirit across the globe. Here is your last opportunity to shop. Enjoy 3 hours of free time here to meet Santa, cross the line into the Arctic, shop, explore, and enjoy lunch on your own.

At the resort, we will have access to multiple Finnish saunas! Once settled in, we will enjoy dinner. To see what a typical menu is when dining at Sunday morning, click here.

You make take a calm and peaceful REINDEER SLEIGH RIDE and truly enjoy the stillness of nature. A sleigh ride is not a tourism industry innovation, but the Finnish indigenous people, Sámi, way of getting around. A reindeer ride is rather something of a spiritual journey; gliding through a snowy forest in a wooden sleigh IS that magical experience that you will never forget! After our two hour reindeer experience, we will head back to our private resort to eat a program included lunch and dinner. You will have free time to enjoy the sauna, relax, or do a different activity. You can book activities such as ice fishing or snow-showing separately.

What to Pack
Of course winter in the Arctic Circle is going to be cold, so you need to pack accordingly! The average temperature in the Lapland region is between 19 degrees and 35 degrees Fahrenheit with a dry climate during March. However, temperatures can reach -25 degrees Fahrenheit. The Sunday Morning resort is providing all guests with complimentary winterwear during our stay at their resort. This is a really kind service they normally do not offer, but they are allowing us to use the clothes since we are buying out the entire resort! Additional clothes will not be provided for our stay at the glass igloos. The key for packing for Finland is to bring very warm layers that can be easily layered.
Recommended Packing List:
Please note: if you do not want to buy all of these winter clothes, I work with a great company called Kit Lender that rents them. Kit Lender is the world’s premier outdoor equipment and apparel rental service. With Kit Lender’s streamlined four-system you get the right rental gear at the right price, without any of the headache. Wherever your adventures may take you, Kit Lender has got you covered. Rent winter clothes here.
This is one of the most important things you'll bring on this trip. Your jacket needs to have the following criteria:
designed for cold or below freezing temperatures
down or alternative down filled
wind resistant or wind proof
water resistant is desirable
hip length or longer
This is another one of the most important things you will bring on this trip and also be a determining factor to how comfortable you are during our outdoor activities. You must bring at least one pair of boots that are warm, waterproof, and meant for snow. These will be required almost every day of our trip. I recommend SOREL boots, which you can view here.
Hat(s) that cover ears
Preferably wool. Please don't pack anything made of acrylic because it will not keep you warm.
Waterproof snow gloves or mittens
I would bring more than one pair in case one gets wet.
Scarf or scarves
Thermal tights/leggings and undershirt
Thick leggings and/or jeans
2 to 3 *wool* sweaters
Acrylic sweaters will not keep you warm
Polar Tec Zip Layer
4 pairs of wool socks and 3 pairs regular socks
Shirts you can layer
There is an outdoor Jacuzzi and great spa at Sunday Morning to use during your stay!
The dry, cold air is really harsh to your skin, so definitely bring something to soothe your skin at night!
